The Mississippi Office of Capital Post-Conviction Counsel (CPCC) is a statutorily-created state agency. See Mississippi Code Section 99-39-101. The CPCC was created to provide representation to indigent parties under the sentence of death in post-conviction proceedings as well as ancillary matters related to review of their convictions and sentences. The CPCC is its own state agency and thus not part of any other agency.

The Office of the Secretary of State is dedicated to being both a service and information agency. At the state level, Mississippi's Governor reserve the ability, to call up members of the Mississippi National Guard in time of domestic emergencies or need. The National Guard's state mission is perhaps the most visible and well known. Nearly everyone has seen or heard of Guard units responding to battle fires or helping communities deal with floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, or other emergency situations. In times of civil unrest, the citizens of a state can rest assured that the Guard will be ready to respond.
